What It Is?

VIP is a lab-made synthetic 28-amino-acid peptide hormone – an exact copy of the natural neuropeptide produced in the gut, brain, lungs, and other tissues. Discovered in 1970 as a potent vasodilator (hence the name), it belongs to the secretin/glucagon family and acts as both a neurotransmitter and immunomodulator.

Think of VIP as your body’s ‘relax and protect’ signal – it widens blood vessels, calms inflammation, and supports multiple systems without overstimulating them.
How it works:

-Triggers vasodilation, smooth-muscle relaxation, anti-inflammatory cytokine shifts, and immune balance while protecting tissues (e.g., lungs, gut, brain).

  • Anti-inflammatory & immune modulation – reduces pro-inflammatory cytokines; potential help for autoimmune or inflammatory conditions.
  • Pulmonary & vascular support – potent bronchodilator and vasodilator; explored for pulmonary hypertension, ARDS, and lung protection.
  • Gut health & motility – regulates intestinal secretion, motility, and barrier function (useful in IBD models).
  • Bonus signals: possible neuroprotective effects, appetite/metabolic regulation, and headache/migraine research (one trial tested long infusions).

In short: It promotes relaxation, repair, and balance across multiple systems – especially lungs, gut, and immune responses.

VIP shows good short-term tolerability in trials, but systemic effects can occur.
In human studies: Mild and transient for most.
– Flushing, headache, nausea, or mild hypotension (due to vasodilation).
– Nasal irritation (with spray forms).
– Rare: Allergic responses or exaggerated vasodilation.

For Researchers Only. Not for Human or Vetinerary Consumption.
Method of Administration: Subcutaneous into fatty tissue. Researchers should be aware of avoiding injecting this peptide into veins.
Reconstitution: 2ml Bac water into single vial. See Reconstitution Guide
Dose: Researchers will recommend 200mcg daily. 100mcg in morning/100mcg at night. Therefore draw 4 units or 0.04 ml. Not 40 units. Tiny amount, similar to KPV.
Use peptide calculator for alternative dosage.
Course: This will last 25 days.
Cycling: 8 weeks on, 8 weeks off.

Tip: Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water; store in fridge. Use insulin syringes and sterile technique.

  • VIP for a reason – named for its powerful vasodilator effect (discovered in 1970 as a gut peptide that relaxes blood vessels).
  • 2-8-amino-acid multitasker – acts as both a hormone and neurotransmitter; found in brain, gut, lungs, heart, and immune cells.
  • Lung protector – concentrated in the lungs; synthetic versions reached fast-track trials for ARDS and pulmonary hypertension.
  • Gut-brain axis star – regulates everything from intestinal motility to appetite and even circadian rhythms.
  • Orphan drug history – granted orphan status for several rare lung conditions, still under FDA review for compounding.
  • Anti-inflammatory powerhouse – blocks many inflammatory cytokines in models – one reason its i studied for autoimmune and respiratory issues.
  • Porcine/human identical – the synthetic version matches the human sequence exactly, making it highly compatible in research.

Human data is from small trials and exploratory studies (pulmonary, headache, GI); larger approvals stalled.

1. Liv Hospital overview (Feb 2026): Not FDA-approved; investigational; mechanism via VPAC1/VPAC2; used in research for vasodilation and immunomodulation.
2. Iwasaki et al. (2019 PMC, referenced 2026): Comprehensive review – VIP physiology in GI tract (vasodilation, secretion, motility, immune regulation); multiple effects on gut barrier and inflammation.
3. ClinicalTrials.gov NCT03989817 (ongoing/referenced 2026): Long-lasting VIP infusion effects on headache, cranial hemodynamics, and autonomic symptoms in healthy volunteers.
4. Strive Pharmacy research page (2026): Broad roles (vasodilation, anti-inflammatory); investigational nasal spray forms in research.5. Petkov et al. (2003 PMC): VIP as potential new drug for primary pulmonary hypertension – potent vasodilator effects in models.
6. Hou et al. (2022 Frontiers): Therapeutic potential of VIP/VPAC2 agonists in type 2 diabetes – glucose-dependent insulin secretion.
7. Youssef et al. (2022 PMC): IV Aviptadil (synthetic VIP) in critical COVID-19 respiratory failure – 60-day RCT results; fast-track designation.

Important disclaimer upfront: VIP peptide (and Aviptadil) is NOT approved by the FDA (or any major agency) as of 2026 for any therapeutic use. It remains strictly investigational/research chemical. The FDA has noted insufficient safety data for chronic conditions and is reviewing its bulk compounding status (previously allowing limited access). It had orphan drug designations and fast-track status for some pulmonary uses in trials, but no full approval. Long-term safety in healthy people is unknown. It is banned by WADA.
